We Offer

We offer counselling and psychotherapy to help people with such problems as:
  • self-esteem and confidence
  • anxiety and panic
  • depression, isolation, and suicidality
  • personal growth
  • stress, life changes, and grief
  • trauma and sexual abuse
  • eating and body image issues
  • anger and violence
  • relationships and sexual issues
  • parenting and family struggles

What to Expect

Counselling and psychotherapy may be either short or long term. In your first session an initial assessment of your situation will be made. This is to assist you and the counsellor/therapist to focus clearly on what it is that you want to achieve. We believe in the right of each individual to decide their own goals. At your first session we will also discuss session times, frequency, fees, cancellations, and anything else that may concern you.

Our practitioners belong to the NZ Association of Counsellors, the NZ Association of Psychotherapists, or the NZ College of Clinical Psychologists. We abide by their Code of Ethics and are accountable to them. To ensure a high quality of service we regularly review our work.

Josie Young – Counsellor, Supervisor and Group Facilitator

josie young counsellor warkworthI have been a counsellor for 20 years. I am passionate about my work and enjoy supporting clients to reflect on their lives and their reactions to life events. I believe that, with support and information, a client can resolve past issues and make the changes needed to live their life to it's full potential.

I am experienced in working with clients who are dealing with a range of issues such as: family violence (physical, sexual, psychological or emotional abuse), anger, eating disorders, sexual abuse, grief and loss, anxiety, panic attacks, low self-esteem, mid-life crisis, and decision making.

As the mother of 5 children I have many good ideas and strategies about positive parenting, the teenage years and conflict management. I work with lesbians and lesbian couples on the same issues as mentioned above and in addition with the difficulties and stress that may arise from 'coming out' to parents, families and employers.

I supervise employees working in the helping professions.
