Brian is skilled in therapeutically assisting those who are wanting to work through life experiences which continue to impact upon their positive perception of "self", preventing their achievement of emotional well-being. Such issues can often be linked to symptoms including depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, self-doubt and a general lack of positiveness.
Brian assists clients in working through these issues to achieve increased self awareness and fulfillment, which are necessary for a person to feel confident in moving towards positive change in their life.
Communication is often a major factor contributing to relationship difficulties. For example, parties may be fearful of sharing or expressing their needs in the relationship due to perceived negative outcomes, such as further rejection or misunderstanding. Difficulties may occur when parties are not feeling ‘heard’ in the relationship. Counselling assists the parties to truly hear each other, allowing movement towards a happier and more content relationship life.
FAMILY THERAPY & YOUTH COUNSELLING
Brian holds over thirty years experience in family therapy and youth counselling, including ten years as a specialist in child, adolescent and family services with a local DHB.
Family therapy is based upon the belief that we are all connected within our family systems, and any problem presented by one member will inevitably impact the wider family. Family therapy requires the involvement of as many family members as possible to achieve the most successful outcome.
CREATIVE THERAPEUTIC METHODS
Brian also has significant training and experience in the use of creative therapies to assist clients in achieving their goals. These include art and sand tray therapy, which act as a means of expression and discovery for times when words may not be enough. These are safe yet real ways of exploring future change, encouraging ongoing movement towards improved emotional well-being.

Every attempt is made to complete therapy within the shortest time possible, however this will clearly depend upon the depth and complexity of the issue at hand. Sessions usually last an hour and will ideally take place on a regular weekly or fortnightly basis."
