Counselling/Therapy Services

Psychotherapy will help you become your own master and over time provide you with skills to manage your life better. Whether long term or brief psychotherapy you will generally notice changes in yourself and in your perception of others as you explore your feelings and experiences in a way that ordinary life seldom allows for.

Psychotherapy or therapeutic counselling provides you with answers as to why you do things that cause you grief and pain no matter how hard you try to change what you habitually do. For example, you may feel inadequate, shame; suffer from depressed energy and anxiety or feel you are not in control of your life or that you are controlled by others. You may not have a voice anymore and just want to be heard and acknowledged by others.

The proven benefits of spending structured time with an experienced psychotherapist will give you a better understanding of why habitual problems occur in your relationships or why you become stuck and unable to move forward in life.

Counselling/Therapy Approach

The Gestalt approach to psychotherapy informs my work as a psychotherapist. The Gestalt approach is very useful in getting to core issues quickly and will help you to discover, explore and experience how you shape, develop fixed patterns in your life, and how you view your world both externally and internally. By becoming aware of these things, you can allow yourself to be who you are, and to recognize your full potential and achieve your dreams and goals.

As an experienced therapist, I will listen carefully to you without judgement. Your work with me will always be collaborative and our relationship will be based on equality, trust, and confidentiality. We will focus on what matters to you. I will help you gain a clearer understanding of how you see and react to things that impact on your life.

Background and Experience

During the past 17 years my therapeutic practice has been across different cultures and ethnicities, giving me a broad view on humanity and how we operate as individuals within a diverse national and global community.

In a Australia, I developed a drug and alcohol service for indigenous communities; worked with male perpetrators of family violence; developed and facilitated a program for boys on respecting women and girls; and worked as a critical incident and trauma psychotherapist/counsellor for the maritime and mining industries. Additionally, I have worked as an addiction psychotherapist in a multidisciplinary mental health team gaining valuable experience helping people from all walks of life to maintain good mental health and have insight for personal support and care.

Whilst in New Zealand, I worked as a specialist therapist for a government agency helping women and men who are survivors of sexual abuse and other trauma experienced during their lives.

I have also worked in the Solomon Islands as an advisor to local communities on stopping domestic violence throughout the Solomon region.
