Counselling/Therapy Services

Psychotherapy will help you become your own master and over time provide you with skills to manage your life better. Whether long term or brief psychotherapy you will generally notice changes in yourself and in your perception of others as you explore your feelings and experiences in a way that ordinary life seldom allows for.

Psychotherapy or therapeutic counselling provides you with answers to why you do things that cause you grief and pain no matter how hard you try to change what you habitually do. For example, you may feel inadequate, shame; suffer from depressed energy and anxiety. Feel you are not in control of your life or that you are controlled by others. You may not have a voice anymore and just want to be heard. The proven benefits of spending structured time with an experienced psychotherapist will give you a better understanding of why ruptures occur in your relationships or why you become stuck and unable to move forward in life.

Military personal & Veterans: I work with both veterans and those still serving. I am also a Veterans Affairs (NZ) provider for veterans discharged from military service due to mental health and trauma related issues.

Counselling/Therapy Approach

As an experienced therapist, I will listen carefully to you without judgement. Your work with me will always be collaborative and our relationship will be based on equality, trust and confidentiality. We will focus on what matters to you. I will help you gain a clearer understanding of how you see and react to things that impact on your life.

The Gestalt approach to psychotherapy informs my work as a psychotherapist. It is very useful in getting to core issues quickly. Gestalt therapy will help you to discover, explore and experience your own shape, pattern and wholeness with the aim of integration of all disparate parts. In this way you can let yourself become who you are, and what you potentially can become.

Background and Experience

During the past 16 years I have been fortunate that my therapeutic work has been across different cultures and ethnicities, giving me a broad view on humanity and how we operate as individuals within a diverse national and global community.

Recently I returned from Australia where I: developed a drug and alcohol service for indigenous communities; worked with male perpetrators of family violence; developed and facilitated a program for boys on respecting women and girls; and, worked as a critical incident and trauma psychotherapist for the maritime and mining industries. In NZ, I have worked as an addiction psychotherapist in a multidisciplinary mental health gaining valuable experience around keeping and maintaining good mental health.
