Areas of Special Interest
Supervision. Professional Development. Sexual & physical assault. Physical injury & accidents. Sudden or chronic illness. Anxiety. Grief and loss. Relationship problems. Gender and sexual orientation issues. Life transitions. Personal growth.
The first step in counselling or therapy is to feel comfortable, clarify what has bought you to see me, set your goals for therapy and discuss how I might help you.
It might be that having the right kind of listening ear, understanding and support while building new skill sets is enough to help you better manage one off or current problems such as aging, illness or injury, separation or a recent trauma.
Longer term therapy might be required for more complex issues such as historical sexual abuse and the effects of family violence or for those problems that keep coming up again and again such as chronic anxiety and repeated breakdowns in relationships.
Whatever your situation, if I am the right person to work with you then together we would design the therapy that is the best fit for you.
I have trained in many different modalities during my 30 year career and I keep learning new skills and techniques as I strive to improve my practice. I have learnt Bioenergetics at post-graduate level – this is a style that emphasizes the integration of mind and body and focuses on what really matters - the quality of the working relationship between therapist and client as the ground for the hard work of making changes.
Fundamental to my approach is the belief that we have the capacity to identify and apply our many personal resources to overcome adversity, create change and grow ourselves at any point in our lives. This belief is also inherent in the Mindfulness Meditation I practice and teach.

Background and Experience
I have worked in the Social Services field for over 30 years and have experience in social and community work, counselling and psychotherapy, supervision, mentoring and as a trainer of other Health and Social Service Practitioners. I have worked in bicultural settings, with people from other cultures including refugees and with people from the LGBTQ+ community.
I have trained in and also have experience with a range of therapeutic modalities. These include Client Centered Counselling, Bioenergetic Psychotherapy, Mindfulness Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focussed Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Psychodrama, Eye Movement Desensitising Reprocessing Therapy(EMDR) and Trauma Focussed Therapy.
I have a particular passion for and interest in Clinical Supervision, Training, Mentoring and Professional Development and this has been an important part of my practice for the last 20 years. I work with people with all levels of experience from a wide range of professions including Counselling, Psychotherapy, Psychology, Health Services, Education, Social & Community Work, Disability Services, Stopping Violence, Parenting Programmes and Youth Work.
I am a specialist Trauma Therapist with 26 years of Sensitive Claims experience and I very much enjoy supervising and mentoring others who want to develop their knowledge and expertise in this area and to sustain themselves in this rewarding work. As a Psychotherapist trained in Somatic Therapy and Mindfulness Meditation, I enjoy sharing this knowledge and experience with supervisees wishing to incorporate these elements in their work.
I am also available for professional development coaching and consultation in settings outside the helping and social services.
