Hello! I am Emma Heaney-Yeatts. Mybestme is especially for women and couples who want to empower themselves and their relationships. As I'm a Mum of two boys I understand how tricky it can be to fit in therapeutic work for yourself - but it's worth it!

Areas of Special Interest

My specialities are mainly to do with parenting - adjusting to pregnancy, and life with a baby (antenatal and postnatal concerns). I am passionate about relationship therapy, because a strong relationship can help alleviate post/antenatal distress.

Counselling/Therapy Services

I provide personal therapy services, especially for women and couples. My speciality is Client Centred Therapy, Interactive Drawing Therapy, and couples work, and I also offer EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitisation Therapy).

Having a personal therapist means that you have someone there for you when, inevitably, things get tough. Most importantly it means you have someone to work with to get to where you want to be in life. My style is non-directive, but supportive and guiding, like I'm walking with you on your journey. I use a range of different therapeutic tools, depending on client preference.

In our first few sessions we will look at what you are experiencing, what helps, what hinders, and what has triggered your experience. Most importantly we will look at what you want to improve. We will then tailor-make a programme using tools and interventions that align with your values, objectives and goals. Common topics that I work with include; trauma, loss, relationship difficulties, self-worth, resolving childhood wounds, letting go of control, balancing work and life, and facing fears.

Mybestme is based in Mana, Porirua. I have a homely room that is warm and comfortable and we have toys available for the kids, should you wish to bring them along (for individual sessions).

Counselling/Therapy Approach

A visual learner myself, I use a range of my own colourful diagrams, tools and templates in my work with clients. My passion is Interactive Drawing Therapy, which uses crayons and paper to facilitate the therapeutic process. Even the process of using crayons and paper can be therapeutic in itself, and with the addition of my coaching Drawing Therapy is a powerful and magical way of uncovering and processing what's going on for you.

Client Centred Practice is the foundation of the work I do, which means what we do in session is up to you and I am like a sounding board that can help you process what's going on.

I also touch on cognitive approaches which help people uncover any deeper thoughts and beliefs that fuel unwanted behaviours.

Background and Experience

I have six years experience working at the Wellington charity 'Post and Antenatal Distress Support Wellington' - I am the Lead Counsellor and Extension Manager there.

I have two kids of my own, and my own experience of Postnatal Distress. I've also had the experience of having to juggle work, study and life commitments, which I think many women find a challenge in todays world.

I'm continuing my studies in couples therapy by studying to qualify as an IMAGO therapist, and in Interactive Drawing Therapy.
