ANNOUNCEMENT

I am a Psychotherapist, Counsellor, Family Therapist, Workplace Mediator, Supervisor & Public Speaker, and specialist in suicide prevention.

Areas of particular interest include:

  • I enjoy promoting self-care, acceptance, well-being and change.
  • I work well with individuals from aged five to adulthood.
  • I have a special interest in helping families and teenagers
  • I am able to help people who may be experiencing thoughts of suicide.

Counselling/Therapy Services

I provide a safe and warm environment where people can come, experience true welcome, acceptance and aroha. I aim to help people feel good about themselves, to harness strengths, and work on ways to change what can be changed through mutual planning and intention.

People often arrive in therapy feeling low, confused, stressed out and/or overwhelmed. We will work on ways to find a place of calm and self-care, and then look at specific goals of self acceptance and/or change.

Mental health is often overlooked. Looking after it, and our wairua, (spirit), is essential for our well-being. My overall philosophy is that we need to incorporate looking after our spirit into our everyday lives. It is a continual work in progress, and together we can find enjoyable easy ways to nurture ourselves and feel better.

I offer short term counselling as well as longer term psychotherapy. I see counselling as a means to connect and promote calm, acceptance and change in the life circumstances you seek. With Psychotherapy we can go deeper, looking at family dynamics, upbringing, useful patterns and strengths, as well as unpacking and healing those that may not be as useful.

Counselling/Therapy Approach

My training was based in client-centred Jungian, (Carl Jung), and Gestalt psychotherapy.

In terms of Jungian, I particularly resonate with his notion of the Collective Unconscious. Jung suggests that we are influenced in our way of viewing the world through a combination of our individual experience, and through the eyes of all that have come before us in our whanau. It stresses the importance of whakapapa.

With Gestalt, (German for “put together”), the map of concentrating on emotional/intellectual/physical/spiritual and existential aspects of our make-up, with the concept of ultimate connection, is particularly appealing.

Background and Experience

I have been working in mental heath for the last thirty-nine years. In this time I have provided services for children as young as five, to adults, from the worried well, to people with diagnostics. My clients include individuals, groups, and families. I have worked extensively in secondary schools, as well as private practice.

I also run training workshops with a special interest in teaching professionals skills in suicide prevention and self care. I also offer supervision and workplace mediations.

I have also learned, through hard times of my own, the importance of looking after my own mental health as a daily practice. This enables empathy, combined with years of professional experience and theoretical knowledge.

Supervision Services

I provide supervision services for counsellors and psychotherapists, with individuals or in groups. I see supervision as twofold. First, we need to have an understanding of who we are as individuals and what strengths and /or potentially challenging dynamics we bring into our practice. For individual clients in private practice, we explore how you are in person, and as a professional and how this works with the interface of therapy.

I have also worked extensively in institutions, such as Man Alive, Copeland House Family Therapy, and secondary schools. When working with therapists who work in a team, I am proficient in helping navigate professional team building, as well as assisting in challenging times when your person and professional are struggling with politics in the workplace.

I also offer workplace mediations, and can travel to your workplace.
