Areas of Special Interest
All forms of Anxiety, Depression, Obesity & Weight Management, Binge Eating & Bulimia, Couples work and Professional Supervision.
During the first appointment, I take a brief history and find out what the primary issues are that the client wants to work on. During the time that we are together, I clarify what the clients goals are for treatment and we discuss treatment options and preferences. I am trained in short term, skills based talk therapy. This means that I don’t just listen and nod. I will also teach the client new skills that they can use to better manage their emotions, their thoughts, their behaviours and the physical symptoms that might come along with them. The techniques that I use are evidenced based. This means that they have been well researched and have been found to be very helpful in research studies for other people who have had similar problems. This work is flexible and the client has choice about what we discuss and the skills that they learn based on their preferences. I do not offer medications.
Talking about our problems can be challenging at times. I put a strong emphasis on kindness and compassion in my practice. I also have a really good sense of humour. Clients routinely tell me that they feel a sense of relief after working together and feel excited to learn new coping strategies.
I provide psychological assessment and treatment services for adults and couples in New Zealand. I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) along with other evidence-based therapeutic approaches (skills from Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, & Mindfulness) depending on the needs of the person.
I have experience treating a wide range of problems including obesity and weight management, binge eating and Bulimia, addiction, anxiety (stress, Panic Disorder, Social Phobia, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), depression and trauma. Mindfulness Based Eating Awareness Training (MB-EAT) is one of my specialities.

Background and Experience
I have the highest level of training in mental health that is recognised by the government. I have worked in the field of Psychology for over 35 years both in research and clinical settings.
Currently, I am focused on helping clients with all forms of Anxiety & Stress, Obesity & Weight Management, Binge Eating and Bulimia and Depression. I also provide professional supervision and couples sessions.
I am a Mindfulness Trainer & Mindful Eating Program Coordinator for “Mindfulness Works”: the largest supplier of Mindfulness courses in Australasia. I offer Mindful Eating courses for the public on a regular basis. I also offer Mindful Eating training in private sessions.
At age 50, impressed by the research literature on how yoga can help my clients, I also became a certified Yoga teacher (RYT500). My yoga teaching is on hold for 2021.
I have engaged in professional supervision with a wide range of professionals over the years: business people, physicians, lawyers, managers, nurses, teachers, emergency services staff, police, Psychologists and other mental health professionals.
Sometimes in supervision sessions, I am helping my clients to get unstuck or to figure out which career move would be most in line with their goals and values.
Sometimes, I am supporting my supervisees in highly stressful situations: teaching stress management strategies and conflict resolution skills, listening and offering encouragement and support.
Other times, I am suggesting that the client step back and reassess their life goals and make sure that they are proceeding along a path that meets their needs.
I strive to create a relationship wherein my supervisee feels safe and comfortable bringing up any topic that feels relevant to them and their work. I also make sure that my supervisee is always working safely and in line with the code of conduct of their professional body.
