Counselling/Therapy Services

Living in an imperfect world, with imperfect relationships means problems naturally develop for us all. At times these problems can become large enough to hide the life giving uniqueness that each of us holds. They can attempt to define us, to speak for us and hinder our natural drive towards growth, wholeness and fulfilment. I am passionate about helping individuals claim their lives back from the influence of these problems and reunite with their calling, their natural drive towards becoming all that they are capable of being.

I work through play with younger children and use Narrative therapy and other cognitive approaches for older children, adolescents and adults. Play provides the most natural medium through which a child is enabled to express themselves, work through conflicts and problems, develop a positive view of themselves and change problematic behaviours. For a description of Narrative Therapy, please see the information under Counselling Approach.

I am passionate about providing education for parents and caregivers alongside these approaches, to help strengthen the parent-child relationship, develop a secure attachment and enable a positive cycle of communication.

Counselling/Therapy Approach

  • Child-centred Play Therapy
  • Person-centred Therapy
  • Attachment Theory
  • Narrative Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Narrative Therapy:
In Narrative therapy, problems are viewed as separate from the people experiencing them. Through Narrative therapy the problem's tricks, tactics and triggers can be playfully exposed alongside the individual's skills, strengths, resources and desires. This enables the individual to take action against the problem, reducing its power and influence over their lives and enabling them to live life more fully.

Background and Experience

Born and bred in England but with a life long desire to move overseas, I arrived in New Zealand in 2002 with my young family. My journey into counselling started in my 20s and it was during my training in London, that I experienced first hand the transforming power of relationship shaped by unconditional love, empathy and genuineness.

Twenty years later and after ten years of study and eleven years of practice, I am still in awe of the healing power of this sort of relationship and am passionate about sharing it with others.

Its application to my own practice of parenting has been life changing and it gives me great pleasure to enable parents to positively influence their child's emotional development through relationship.
