Areas of Special Interest
PTSD, anxiety difficulties (including panic, social anxiety, OCD, phobias), psychosis, depression, body image and eating difficulties, stress and burnout, difficulties with shame and self criticism, low self esteem and relationship problems.
I believe that therapy can enable and empower everyone to lead a happy and meaningful life. I work using an integration of a number of evidenced based therapeutic models, but with a focus on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and EMDR. Using a collaborative, warm style, I am interested in how some of the experiences in your life may have shaped your beliefs, resulting in particular ways of behaving and relating to others. Together we can start to understand these patterns and I can help you to develop new ways of coping. I am also interested in how traumatic past or recent experiences may be affecting you, and how I can work with you to process these painful memories and allow you to reclaim your life.
I will start by offering a free, short (15 minute) phone consultation to ensure that I am the right person to help you with your goals. We can then arrange to meet for our first assessment session, which will for 90 minutes to allow us time to thoroughly discuss your presenting difficulties.
In my work, I draw closely on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), EMDR, Compassion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Analytic Informed Therapy. I also draw on systemic theory and am trained in offering Single Session Family Consultations.

Background and Experience
I have 10 years of experience of working in mental health services in the UK and New Zealand, often working with people with chronic and complex mental health difficulties, both in the community and on inpatient wards. In addition to working with adults with mental health problems, I have experience working with children and adolescents, older adults and people with intellectual disabilities. I also have particular expertise in working with women in pregnancy and during the post partum period. I also have experience of conducting research, evaluating health services and training professionals. Currently I split my time between DHB work and working in private practice.
I am available for clinical supervision in the Auckland region for psychologists and other registered professionals who practice evidence-based therapies.
