Maggie Brown, PhD.

Moving forward – one step at a time!

I’ve worked to support personal growth and healing for over two decades. For some , that means changing lifelong habits that no longer work. For others, there is deep healing and moving on from ‘what was’. And for all, the work is about positive change.

Counselling/Therapy Services

I have a broad range of experience and interests. Most of my clients come with a sense that they have not been fully seen or understood. Or that they are somehow on the wrong path. Many feel anxious or sad – some can pinpoint reasons or histories that help explain their discontent, others wonder. I work with trauma, grief, disruptions to early development, and conflict or confusion in the here-and-now.

My training in neurobiology is often useful – people can find it helpful to know how the body – the nervous system – is involved in emotions. I teach techniques for emotional regulation to prevent overwhelm.

I believe it’s important to not re-traumatize, and so I know how to work gently but effectively. Along with that, it’s important to safeguard and respect key relationships. Sometimes it’s useful to involve others in the process, and I will recommend that at times. For many, our time together is the first time they’ve actually been able to be fully heard and understood, and we keep that a very private and precious experience.

Counselling/Therapy Approach

With decades of experience under my belt, I can draw on approaches to suit needs. The key for me is always the relationship. I care, and I respect that my clients have the courage and willingness to make positive change. I draw on training in transactional analysis (TA), neuropsychology, cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), developmental psychology, neurolinguistic programming (NLP) and more.
