Counselling/Therapy Services

Therapy:
I am a skilled therapist who listens with empathy, openness, curiosity, and a high degree of positive regard for my clients and their experience. I meet adults who may feel overwhelmed, face significant changes, and/or want help with self development. I will develop an interpersonal relationship, with clear boundaries and work with you to deepen your understanding of underlying, often unconscious issues that cause distressing thought patterns and feelings and then help you choose new ways of relating to yourself and others that is more satisfying and constructive.

Children:
I meet children who have had distressing experiences, helping them to work through feelings constructively, and develop inner resources to cope with life challenges. Art assists children and adults to build self-esteem and develop greater resilience.

Art Therapy:
Artistic skill is not necessary to use art materials, the process of creating/meaning-making is more important than an end product. I invite clients to discover strengths and skills obscured by life problems, I see all behaviour as goal directed and understood as a person in the process of becoming essentially truly human.

Counselling/Therapy Approach

I employ mindfulness, object relations therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Interactive Drawing Therapy, and non-verbal therapies such as Sand tray, Art Therapy using painting and paper assembly that focus on exploration of inner experience. These sensing methods make sharing of difficult experiences easier; help clients get out of over thinking and cyclical symptoms. Clients develop their own authority by expressing felt experiences and more understanding is gained, leading naturally to the arising of inner resource-fullness. Clients feel more in charge while dealing with deep issues lightly, and more rapidly get to the heart of matters so that change occurs at a lasting level.

Supervision Services

Supervision facilitates confidence, competence, awareness of strengths and capacities!!

I understand how important a supervisor is to the quality of my work with clients. As a Supervisor I will support you to look honestly at issues with case work and to appreciate your relevance and potential as a professional practitioner. I am interested in supporting your goals and how you make sense of your own experience, where this leads you. I encourage you to let off steam if angry or disappointed and to acknowledge your feelings of pleasure and failure etc. Supervision will support you to recognise ego states, transference/counter transference/parallel processes and to develop sound ethical practice with an awareness of safety and boundaries in relation to clients and/or for your own self care. I generally work from a Person-centred, object relations perspective incorporating Interactive Drawing Therapy.

I enjoy working with fellow professionals; have experience in supervising Counsellors, Play & Art Therapists, Nurses, Midwives, Community Workers. I lead an Interactive Drawing Therapy Peer Supervision Group.

If you are considering supervision, I would be happy to consult with you for us to discuss the way I work and for both of us to determine our compatibility.
