Counselling/Therapy Services

I am a skilled therapist who listens with empathy, openness, curiosity, and a high degree of positive regard for my clients and their experience. I meet adults who may feel overwhelmed, face significant changes, and/or want help with self development. I will develop an interpersonal relationship, with clear boundaries and work with you to deepen your understanding of underlying, often unconscious, issues that cause distressing thought patterns and feelings and then help you choose new ways of relating to yourself and others that is more satisfying and productive. I meet children who have had distressing experiences, helping them to work through feelings constructively, and develop inner resources to cope with life challenges. Art assists children to build self esteem and greater resilience.

Counselling/Therapy Approach

I draw upon psychodynamic, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, family systems and narrative therapy. I employ talking with sand tray, art materials, Interactive Drawing Therapy which use non-verbal communication, these indirect approaches make sharing difficult experiences easier; clients get out of their head, deal with deep issues lightly, feel in charge, and quickly get to the heart of matters so that change occurs at a lasting level.

Artistic skill is unnecessary, the process of creating/meaning-making is more important than end product. I invite clients to discover strengths and skills obscured by life problems, I see all behaviour as goal directed and understood as a person always in the process of becoming essentially true to themselves.

Supervision Services

Supervision is about staying sane, confident and competent!

I understand how important a supervisor is to the quality of my work with clients. As a Supervisor I will help you share in confidence, develop professional skills, ideas and interests, let off steam if angry or disappointed and acknowledge your feelings of pleasure and failure etc. Supervision will help you to recognise and work with transference/counter transference/parallel processes and to develop sound ethical practice with an awareness of safety and boundaries in relation to clients and/or for your own self care. I generally work from a Person-centred, object relations perspective incorporating Interactive Drawing Therapy.

I enjoy working with fellow professionals; have experience in supervising Counsellors, Play Therapists, Art Therapists, Nurses, Community Workers, Student Counsellors.

If you are considering supervision, I would be happy to consult with you for us to discuss the way I work and for both of us to determine our compatibility.
