I know through personal experience, and through my work, that counselling can be a powerful and healing experience. Counselling can provide personal insight into areas where people can feel stuck. One of the most powerful aspects of counselling is developing a trusting realtionship with a counsellor so that you feel able to say what you need to say - even things that are scary or that you may have never spoken about before. I can help you to gain insight in to your life, your experiences, and your reactions. I can help you find new ways to cope with difficult things, and teach you strategies to use in your daily life.
Counselling can provide effective tools for living, and can empower you to make changes to improve your wellbieng.
I work from a person centered framework and integrate a variety of other modalities into my practice. I include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in my work (CBT), Transactional Analysis, and Sand Tray Therapy. I use symbols, and sand tray therapy with clients who wish to explore their issues in this way. I am interested in how symbols and dreams can allow the unconscious to become conscious. I have been studying and training in ACT therapy (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and love to use mindfulness with clients.
I am a full member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors.
