Areas of Special Interest
Trauma, anxiety and worry, adjustment difficulties, stress and burnout, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, self-worth and assertiveness, obsessive-compulsive behaviours, dementia/memory assessment, weight management concerns.
The difficulties that I see clients struggling with are most often associated with trauma, stress and pain (emotional or physical). Taking care of yourself and seeking help is a sign of strength, although it can be daunting to undertake therapy. Clinical psychology is 'evidence-based', which means I am trained in therapies that have been scientifically evaluated as effective. However, the most important factor for therapy to be successful is the relationship between the client and psychologist. If I am not the right person for you to connect with, I am happy to recommend another therapist who might be.
Neuropsychological Testing for Dementia/Memory Problems
I also undertake assessments for neurodegenerative conditions that occur in older age. If you have concerns about your own or a loved one's memory or thinking abilities, please contact me to discuss whether testing may be helpful. Because other medical issues may be responsible or contributing to these problems, it is advisable to see your GP first.
In treatment, I use the following therapeutic models: cognitive-behavioural (including mindfulness-based and trauma-focused), acceptance and commitment, and compassion-focused therapies.
