Counselling/Therapy Services

I believe the therapeutic relationship is fundamental to a good outcome. I strive to provide a professional service that is warm and friendly where you feel heard, understood and accepted; a place where you feel safe to explore sensitive and sometimes painful issues.

I offer psychological therapy tailored to your individual situation and needs, based on a comprehensive assessment and evidence-based treatments that work. I am committed to continual education, training and supervision to ensure you receive the highest standard of service.

My main therapeutic model is called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which is an acceptance-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) model. The aim of my approach is to enable you to take committed action towards living a rich and meaningful life, while simultaneously acquiring skills to handle any painful feelings and associated thoughts that inevitably turn up in life (e.g., sadness, fear, rejection, worry, loss, anger, disappointment and failure). Depending on our joint understanding of the issues, and your own preferences and goals, this can be either a brief or longer term approach.

Counselling/Therapy Approach

I draw on a number of therapeutic approaches in which I have had extensive training and expertise, including:
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT)

Background and Experience

I have been registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board as a Clinical Psychologist since 2006. I am also a member of the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists (NZCCP) and served on their Ethics Committee between 2009-2015. I have worked with adults in private practice since 2009. I have previously worked at District Health Boards (ADHB and CMDHB) between 2005-2017, providing assessment and treatment of mental health issues with adolescents and their families'.

Supervision Services

I am available to provide clinical supervision for psychologists.

As well as the general nature of supervision, my specialty areas are ACT and DBT.

In my work at District Health Boards (ADHB and CMDHB), I had provided supervision for clinical psychologists and other mental health staff, and had provided a training role in supervising clinical psychology students and interns. I had also been appointed to a Practice Supervisor position. In private practice I have also provided supervision for psychologists since 2011.
