Counselling/Therapy Services

My style of counselling offers you support in discovering how the problem influences your life and how you may want to deal with this problem to understand, make sense and move on from this problematic space. Counselling is a very individual thing and the number of session you attend is up to you. Some people need only one or two sessions and others may need more.

I provide a safe and non-judgement space to work with you collaboratively to explore the effects of the problem and thought processes presenting within the problem to help you create change for yourself. Working collaboratively allows you to be in-charge of what you want out of the session and allows me to sensitively guide you with my professional tools. I am able to provide an environment for change through my professional practice, my qualifications and my ethical and respectful approach.

The way I work allows me to work with a range of issues that may present. I do not give advice but we work together (and at times others we may agree on joining us in our work) collaboratively to find a way forward.

Counselling/Therapy Approach

I hold a Masters in Counselling and regularly undertake professional development to refresh my skills and knowledge. I am trained in Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Careers Counselling. I also incorporate modes of play and drawing in my work depending on how open the person is towards using these methods.

Narrative Therapy focuses on the problem being the problem, not the person being the problem.

I also carry out conflict resolution and mediation for workplaces or for community groups.

Coming to counselling in the first instance may make you feel anxious but my clients have told that they quickly feel at ease and are able to share their stories and work effectively towards moving towards a more helpful place.

Background and Experience

I have worked as a counsellor in high schools in New Zealand and overseas. I have also worked in a community organisation supporting the local community. In the schools I have worked in I have also provide counselling support to the teachers and the parents of the students. I work with parents on things like parenting skills and supporting their child and also in developing the parent as a person.

I have lived and worked with people from different religious, cultural and ethic backgrounds. This has allowed me to be more open to the knowledge held in different communities.

Prior to counselling I worked as a science technician, a teacher and a manager of a private enterprise. I am also a mother to two children who are now at university.
