Children, adults, couples, groups.
Areas of Special Interest
I have a particular interest in working with children under 10, but also work with adults and couples. I use a solution focussed approach, enjoy using personality types to help people understand themselves and others and I also use CBT.
When working with children, I use a play based approach but also teach kids various resilience based skills to help them learn how to help themselves in difficult situations.
I have certified therapy dogs that I can bring in for clients who would feel more at ease that way.
I also offer couples and individual adult counselling. With most clients, I get them to do an online personality typing test as this is something I have researched and studied for years and it gives an extra tool to help people understand themselves and their significant others. For most couples, understanding each other's personality can really help to take away some of the blame-shame cycle and normalise behaviour - thus creating a climate where we are problem solving together on how to handle certain behaviour and where to compromise rather than blaming each other and demanding change. For Christian couples, I can use a Christian marriage course to help them work through basing their marriage on appropriate Biblical principles.
I have a very solution focussed approach naturally. I prefer not to focus a whole lot on the past and the why of where we are at but rather on the future and the "what are we going to do about it". While I acknowledge that sometimes discussion about past events is important, my focus generally lies on finding a way forward because we can't change the past, but we can influence the future. To this end, I use CBT based techniques as well as solution focussed therapy techniques, tend to keep things quite goal directed and focus on giving clients tools so that they can help themselves.

Background and Experience
Most of my clinical practice has taken place in New Zealand with clients in person. I have worked in a counselling chatroom for a few years and also done counselling via instant messaging and video calling. I have also worked via email. I regularly attend supervision and believe in lifelong learning so I am always either reading a book, attending a course or doing some sort of research. I have years of reading and research into personality types and have developed a significant understanding of that as well. I also had training in the development of resilience and co-wrote a course for kids in schools. I also wrote a parenting for resilience course and have presented that to groups.
