Sheila Larsen

Counsellor, Psychotherapist, Supervisor

I work with people so that they can overcome the difficulties in their lives that prevent them from realizing their full potential. I work hard at making a real connection with people, using ordinary language and avoiding jargon.

Counselling/Therapy Services

Together we will look at what is troubling you and what keeps you stuck there – is it a life pattern that you can change? – is it unfortunate circumstances that you have never come across before? – is it reminding you of earlier events and situations in your life? I will help you clarify the difficulties, and help you look for new ways of dealing with them. This will give you a greater sense of direction and control in your life. You will find strength, courage and hope within yourself and be empowered to deal with difficulties you are facing.

Qualifications

I qualified as a psychiatric nurse in 1968 however my real passion was in psychotherapy and I gained full membership of the NZ Association of Psychotherapists in 1981. I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Adult Psychotherapy and a certificate in Advanced Clinical Practice.

Background and Experience

My life has been enriched with many of life’s experiences, including the loss of a child, the loss of partners both through separation and death and the triumphs of regaining control over my own life.

My personal journey and training have provided me with an in-depth understanding of human nature, enabling me to identify the ‘signposts’ that might help other people through the many complicated issues that life sometimes brings upon us.

In 2015 I was given the role of President Elect of the New Zealand Association of Psychotherapists. In April 2016 I will take over the role of President. This is an exciting challenge. I want to maintain the relevancy of psychotherapy in today’s fast paced world and keep a dynamic future direction.

Supervision Services

I provide supervision mainly to psychotherapists and counsellors, but also to other helping professionals such as social workers, nurses, career consultants
