My Counselling Approach

I am passionate about my work as a counsellor. I pay particular attention to the relationship between myself and my clients, with warmth and professionalism. I work hard to connect with my clients and provide a safe and supportive environment for you.

I communicate clearly and directly to check that I understand my clients’ perspectives. I welcome feedback at all stages to ensure that I am working in a way that is respectful and helpful.

I am Sri Lankan and was born and raised in Aotearoa New Zealand. My lived experience of being an ethnic minority in this country is something which enhances my practice. I am welcoming of clients of all backgrounds and identities.

Central to the way I work is a belief that each person I meet with will have different needs and perspectives and it is my job to get to know who you are and work in a way that suits you.

I use a client centered approach to talk therapy and incorporate a variety of modalities, which include narrative therapy, solution focused and small figure work.

Background and Experience

I have been working as a counsellor since 2011 and am experienced in working with clients exploring issues around identity, grief and loss, relationships, anxiety and depression. Much of my experience has been with youth and tertiary students. I currently work part-time with students at Whitireia through Vitae, Little Shadow (an NGO working with parents experiencing perinatal distress) and provide EAP counselling through Benestar.
