Sunitha Ramnarayan

Counsellor

I am warm, empathetic person who is interested in fostering relationships and learning from others as well as as supporting them in their growth and healing.

I specialise in Strength based Person Centered therapy, believing we all hold innate wisdoms and facilitating healing begins with befriending ourselves. I offer both “top down “ narrative strategies and “ bottom up” body/emotions based tools.

Counselling Services

It’s my privilege to come alongside during periods of challenges. My clients include teenagers, young adults, couples, families and older adults seeking healing and restoration. I am interested in how our bodies, minds, souls and spirit all give wisdoms and healing. I use both body focused “bottom up” and cognitive methods “top down “ modalities of therapy to integrate a fully inclusive healing journey. My ethos is founded on a Strength based Person-Centred counselling. My method of engagement in therapeutic relationships is deeply respectful of your own wisdoms and strengths, offering a collaboration where we learn from each other.

I have experience working with anxiety, depression, self harm, trauma, family issues and couples counselling I have experience with highly functioning highly anxious clients, as well as emigration challenges and marginalised communities.

Counselling Approach

I encourage you to persevere with your wisdom in seeking support for your issues and challenges. This healing journey helps us understand old protective patterns and their impact on our lives and our relationships. Therapy should be about safely and compassionately understanding and changing our thoughts and behaviours and actions towards the person we want to be for ourselves, our family and our lives.

I wish you all the best

Background and Experience

I have been a Behavioural Optometrist for 20 years, working with individuals and families for long periods supporting visual challenges impacted by development and trauma. I began volunteering as a telephone counsellor on a suicide support centre . I have since retrained as a Counsellor and count it a privilege to accompany individual clients, couples and families on their journey towards safe connections towards themselves and others.

My own trauma background was hugely impactful in my decision and I have learned many tools that continue to influence my own ongoing healing journey and I am better able to understand others and have compassion and empathy for their healing journey. The therapy space for me is one of deep respect, safety and collaboration and learning from each other. This keeps me and the sessions dynamic, fresh and new with each client as we learn from each other  and journey together
