Vijay has postgraduate training in psychodynamic psychotherapy (for an overview of counselling and psychotherapy, you may find it useful to read Te Pou's guide on talking therapies in New Zealand
). Vijay has worked at the Burnett Centre in Auckland supporting clients with sexuality and healthy sexual expression. He is also an experienced behaviour therapist and has extensive professional experience in behaviour analysis and crisis management. Vijay regularly facilitates group workshops on a range of topics covering mental health and wellbeing, behaviour support, and crisis prevention. Having embarked on a career early in life, Vijay has previously also worked in a corporate environment delivering IT-enabled services and has held management roles in quality assurance.
We all have adaptive capacities and are incredibly resilient. However, conflict within oneself and in our relationship is inevitable. In a safe and accepting counselling or psychotherapy setting, one can heal painful experiences of the past and repair current conflicts.
Although psychodynamic psychotherapy forms the backbone of Vijay’s therapeutic approach, he finds it useful to draw on other proven skills from a vast body of current literature on counselling, neuropsychotherapy, and trauma therapy.
When you begin psychotherapy with Vijay, you are likely to find him working alongside you to find an approach that best suits your needs.
