Abbey Marshall

Coaching Psychologist and Professional Supervision

I currently don’t have capacity for any new coaching clients. I may have capacity for new supervisees, depending on need.

I’ve been working as a Psychologist for 17 years in a variety of settings and with people from very different backgrounds, wanting to work on different areas of their lives. The theme running through all of my work has been behaviour change; I work to achieve change that is sustainable.

The areas I focus on in my work are Personal Coaching Psychology and professional supervision.

I’m based in Auckland and work online and in person.

Could Coaching Psychology help me?

Using Coaching Psychology I focus on the positive aspects of the human condition, concentrating on strengths and developing skills to help people achieve their goals, increase their sense of well-being, and improve their overall quality of life.

Usually when someone goes to see a psychologist it’s because there is a problem they want help with. Within Coaching Psychology I support people who are in a different place – and the starting point can be thought of as, “I’m doing ok, but could be better”. The ‘being better’ might look like:

  • Set and achieve goals
  • Be better at communicating with people
  • Feel more engaged and connected to your life and values
  • Build wellbeing
  • Improve confidence
  • Flourish through life transitions
  • Enjoy a rich, full and meaningful life

Please see my website for more information on Coaching Psychology, areas I can help with and my approach.

Coaching Psychology isn’t a good fit for people experiencing high levels of anxiety or depression, or experiencing a crisis, so these are not areas I focus on with my work.

My Approach

My approach in 2 words would be supportive and collaborative. A lot of my work involves supporting people to make behavioural changes, setting and achieving goals, and understanding how to deal with the emotions and thoughts that can often hold them back. I draw on a range of psychological theories and use an approach which best fits the client – I don’t practise from a ‘one size fits all’ approach.

I work with individuals on the issues they bring, and design every intervention for that individual. Work is carried out at the client’s pace, to focus on their goals, in a style that suits them, in a collaborative and outcome focused manner.

Supervision Services

I provide supervision to professionals who have oversight from a professional body or from the organisation within which they work.

I believe a trusting working relationship is important and I work to develop these.  I am collaborative in my approach and see reflection as the cornerstone of effective supervision.

Please see my website for more information on my approach and how I practice as a supervisor.
