I offer a safe, compassionate and non-judgemental space to express your concerns and together we explore what the crucial issues are. Because of the counselling relationship and therapeutic process I use you can expect to feel helped in several ways. There is usually sense of relief experienced from not feeling alone in it all and not so stuck in the problem. Together we can start to notice the subtle messages picked up from others and from life events and how these have impacted upon you. This self awareness can lead to discovering fresh choices or creative solutions to the situations you face. You might also rediscover the personal values you hold which can strengthen you and infuse life with a sense of purpose and meaning. All this promotes experiencing less negative internal chatter, less anxiety and an increased sense of wellbeing with less relational conflict and more genuine relationships!
I use an integrated counselling approach that incorporates narrative and person-centred therapies underpinned by the understanding of the centrality of relationships; both with others and with our own self, as the basis to well-being and wholeness. I also incorporate recent findings and applications of neuroscience, mindfulness and an appreciation of the connection between mind, body and spirit.
I work from my own practice in Mt Eden and also at VisionWest Community Trust counselling practice in Glen Eden.
I have worked successfully with a broad range of clients and issues including anxiety, depression, grief, self esteem, trauma, relational issues and spiritual and life transitions.
I am a Christian who is deeply respectful of all faith/non-faith positions. As someone who has seen a fair bit of life and changed career and life perspective along the way, I carry a depth of personal experience and am frequently recognised as having personal and professional integrity.
