To make sure you get the best from your counselling, I work from multidisciplinary philosophy (pluralistic counselling). This approach means we can draw on different therapeutic modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy etc, to find the tools that best fit with your own personal strengths and viewpoints.
The gym space that I work next to, provides a space where you can engage in physical activity alongside the more traditional counselling. Active movement is wellness on so many levels.
Working in legal publications as the go between person for authors and publishers, I saw the stresses that each side was under and how this dynamic can take a toll on a person’s mental health. I reached a point where I could take these learnings and do something that was purposeful.
After completing my qualifications and gaining experience in the counselling field working for agencies in Porirua and Lower Hutt, I established Mental Muscle. Along with my private practice, I work at the local Intermediate school to provide support for the young people in our community.
When I am not counselling or being a mum to four teenagers, I am an active martial artist and have gained my Shodan (black belt) in Seido Karate and also train in Brazilian jiu jitsu.
