ANNOUNCEMENT

I specialize in providing play therapy for children (4+) and psychodynamic talking therapy for adolescents and young adults.

Common issues that I can help with are:

  • grief, anxiety, sadness, depression, anger
  • school refusal, self-harm, sleeping problems, separation anxiety
  • difficult relationships with peers, parents, siblings and blended families

Play therapy for children and younger adolescents

Children find it hard to put into words what is distressing them. But, they can quite easily express their feelings and worries through play. When they come into my room children play freely with a range of toys and art materials, this may involve creating worlds with figurines in the sand tray, drawing or painting, playing with Lego or using costumes and props. In their own time and way they express their inner turmoil. I join them in their world and help them understand what is going on inside them. I also meet with the parents in separate sessions where we share our observations and thoughts. Together we can see their child’s behavior in a different light and parents can learn to support their child in new ways.

Creative and talk therapy for older adolescents and young adults

I also enjoy working with adolescents and young adults. Their bodies and minds are going through enormous changes at a time when they are facing big challenges and trying to find their own way in the world. They find it difficult to talk about these things to their parents. In sessions with me they can talk freely about whatever is on their mind, or use art and stories to express themselves. I’ll help them gently and playfully to understand themselves better and to attain a stable sense of identity.

I work from a psychodynamic perspective and help people to see the sources of their distress as well as the thoughts and feelings that keep them stuck.
