My client experience includes working with a diverse range of ages, cultures and issues for the last 16 years as a Psychotherapist. I thoroughly enjoy meeting new people and working together to find a way through critical and challenging life problems.
All general issues and having a Registered Nurse background I bring medical and system knowledge to support people with medical issues. Experience in LGBT, Problem Solving Therapy. I work a lot with mood issues. Strong interest in the grief process.
I believe in the power of the psychotherapeutic relationship and the unique space it provides to enable people to talk and reflect on themselves and their lives whether dealing with a crisis or long term issues. It’s a process that enables individuals to become more conscious of old negative patterns of thought and behaviour, of unresolved grief and traumas, and helps to release and change that which is blocking feeling fully alive, happy and at peace in life.
I provide short, medium or long-term therapy and draw on a range of modalities including psychoanalytic, cognitive, mindful, drawing, writing or any other medium that is helpful for a specific person to assist their path to wellness. Often it involves a combination depending on what suits the person.
I am committed to ongoing learning and attend regular supervision.
Prior to private practice I honed my skills working for the New Zealand Aids Foundation; my clients were gender diverse and included those affected by HIV. I also spent time as a research therapist teaching Problem Solving Therapy to participants in two projects – one relating to depression and suicide, the other to depression and diabetes.
The last 12 years I have worked in private practice seeing both private and EAP clients with a broad spectrum of issues.
