Cathy offers help and support to individuals, couples and families struggling with any aspect of their lives.
I offer one-hour face-to-face or skype sessions on a weekly or fortnightly basis. The reason you have chosen to come will guide how long we need to work together, but I take an approach that will develop effective skills for you over 3-5 sessions.
I offer day and early evening hours in Hauraki/Takapuna, just off the Esmonde Rd exit from the Northern motorway.
Expectations – ours and others – can be hard to live with and very often lie behind the anxiety and stresses we live with. These expectations are heightened by social media. Together, we develop a realistic understanding about such issues and work on ways to cope with them. You may look to make lasting change and move on or learn new ways of dealing with the unchangeable. For either situation, we build on the strengths and abilities you already have.
In our first meeting, I listen as you tell me what has brought you to counselling. I take notes which I email to you as a letter that helps us both to clarify the issues and your priorities – this becomes the stepping-stone for the next sessions.
Cathy has wide experience of working with people who live with constant difficulties in their lives, from suicide prevention, women’s advocacy, physical and mental disabilities, deep anxiety and issues of loneliness and isolation. From Cathy’s work as a counsellor here in New Zealand and previously in Australia and the USA she believes that you should not be alone in your distress, and that working together your abilities will be located and developed to gain or regain a place of strength.
