Dr Kirsty Agar-Jacomb

Flex Psychology

Everyone faces challenges throughout life and most of us experience some level of worry and stress at times. Therapy might be needed when emotional difficulties feel overwhelming, last for a long time, interfere with your ability to function, or if your actions are harmful to yourself or others.

Models of therapy I use include:

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Mindfulness-based interventions. I specialise in ‘psychosis’ and extreme mind and mood states.

Counselling/Therapy Services

I offer psychological therapy tailored to your individual situation and needs, based on a comprehensive assessment and on current evidence on what treatments work. Depending on your goals and our joint understanding of your troubles therapy may be brief or longer term.

Assessment and Therapy for a range of issues including:

  • Extreme mind states some call ‘psychosis’
  • Hearing distressing voices
  • Depressed mood
  • Anxiety
  • Adjustment difficulties
  • Relationship challenges
  • Stress, overworking, perfectionism
  • Work related problems

Counselling/Therapy Approach

Our troubling experiences and behaviour are inseparable from our social, environmental, socioeconomic and cultural contexts, and are understandable responses to our circumstances, history, belief systems, culture, and biology.

We can learn to draw on skills, strengths, supports, and new ways of understanding ourselves, to develop psychological flexibility and the capacity to flourish.

Therapy involves you talking about the ways you think, feel, and act. You’ll learn psychological skills to deal with your painful thoughts and feelings effectively so that they have much less impact and influence over you, and help you clarify what is important and meaningful to you so that it can guide and motivate you to change your life for the better.
