I am a teacher and after hours counsellor. I have been working as a counsellor for over two decades, providing the service for people who work full time and cannot access therapy during working hours. Having been in the teaching profession for 51 years I feel I have a wide experience with people.
Couples, families and young people with relationship difficulties.
I am prepared to walk alongside of my clients, supporting and encouraging until they are strong and equipped enough to walk on their own.
I am able to listen carefully and respectfully to all my clients. Being heard and understood is the foundation from which progress can be made. I work with my client to understand their difficulties and thereby find a way forward. I do not pretend to hold the key to all the problems faced in life, but a way through them can usually be found. When the need arises I can employ a directive approach if my client feels ‘lost’ or in need of guidance, but always the final action is left up to the client to use or not as they see fit.
I am in contact with young people everyday and I find it easy to communicate with them in a way they feel safe, respected and heard.
I use whatever tools I feel suit the needs of my clients including:
Throughout all my 51 years of teaching I have always taken a pastoral approach with my students. I formally recognised such skills with qualifications in therapy and have practised as a counsellor for over a decade. I am experienced with people from all backgrounds and ethnicities.
