Psychology is both an art and social science. My way of working combines the science – that is the psychological assessment, with the art – which is how I design and deliver personalised, evidence based interventions, to meet your unique needs. I offer you a safe space to talk, debrief, and process what is going on in your life. You will also learn new strategies and resilience tools along the way.
Zoom/Skype Therapy: The majority of my work is online, as I consult with people from all over NZ who need specialist support. Some people like to sit and talk with their pets on their lap to feel comfortable, others feel too anxious or overwhelmed to go out or to drive, online therapy is great if you have OCD and need to show me house rituals.
Phone Therapy: Convenient for many. I sometimes have early sessions for those who walk their dogs while having therapy.
SeaChange Cottage: Face to face sessions by the relaxing sea.
Walk and Talk Sessions: Ideal for people who are sitting all day in their jobs, including Psychologists and counselors who come to me for supervision. Gentle movement walking along the beach while debriefing, can release powerful emotions and enhance sensory modulation training.
DBT is an evidence based therapy that was designed to help those with Borderline Personality Disorder, and people who struggle with self-harm and chronic suicidality, Developmental Trauma, Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. I have expanded my DBT treatment to help those with Anxiety, Phobic, Compulsive and Eating Disorders. I blend in other useful therapies with DBT such as therapeutic Art Journaling, Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness, Attachment Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
I have very limited availability, and work with clients who have been deeply suffering. Therefore I choose to take on clients who are ready and willing to invest in regular medium to long term therapy.
I have 25 years experience working in mental health. In that time I have managed a 24 hour Anxiety Help Line, I’ve run and continue to offer therapeutic retreats (including lovely cruise retreats) for people with anxiety who otherwise might not get holiday breaks, and DBT retreats. I’ve done extensive training over the years, especially in DBT therapy, trauma, and adoption trauma. I’ve run anxiety support groups, therapeutic groups both in person and online, and have over 10 years working in a tertiary education setting. I design group treatment programs, and run workshops and seminars on managing mental health risk for professionals.
I offer clinical supervision to Psychologists, Counsellors, and interns. I have specific training and extensive experience in supervision, and have recently published a peer reviewed article on supervision. I have supervised therapist’s from many organisations and for those in private practice. I have worked as a field supervisor for interns enrolled in the Postgraduate Diploma in Psychological Practice for a number of years. As a supervisor I work holistically with you and provide a safe place for you to be yourself.
We can meet by zoom, Skype, phone, face to face, or a mixture of all that. If you are sitting all day with your clients, and need to get some balance, we can walk and talk along the beach, you can even bring your dog!
