Counsellor – Eclectic approach specialising in trauma and general mental health 心理諮詢師

About Me

I am a fully-qualified counsellor, I’ve been in a counselling capacity since 2015 – helping people of all ages and backgrounds through difficult times to find purpose, identity, and skills to live freer, healthier lives.

Counselling Service & Specialisation

I specialise in helping adults, young people and children who have gone through difficult experiences including all types of trauma, family violence and sexual abuse as well as depression, anxiety, panic attacks, communication in relationships, self-esteem, emotional regulation, culture, spirituality, etc in English and Mandarin.

Trauma is not so much about what happened to you but how it made you feel. Often we carry scars and burdens from the past without realising it. Other times we know full well but lock it away due to deep feelings of shame. My approach empowers me to pick up on trauma as I literally “mirror” you detecting what is locked deep down, sometimes even before you. As trauma is often hidden in the subconscious I use approaches to progressively bring it to the surface where it can be dealt with in a safe space, this is always done on your terms and when you are ready.

Some signs that trauma could be present in your life include feelings of helplessness, hopelessness and aloneness. Trouble sleeping, flashbacks, being easily triggered and losing chunks of time.

Counselling Approach for Adult, Youth, Children

You can expect a gentle, caring approach to my work. If you are feeling “stuck” I can use narrative therapy to draw out what is really stopping you and create a clear vision of where you want to go with your life. Or for those feeling powerless to life’s circumstances my strengths-based approach can bring clarity to what actually is your responsibility and help create healthy boundaries. Perhaps you just want someone to listen and understand what you are really going through, Person-Centred methodology really zeros in and makes it about YOU.

My approach is eclectic as I draw from my vast range of training to inform my work. Regardless of your situation, you will leave each session better able to love and accept yourself, empowered with resources to bring change and a deep sense that at least one person really understands you and the trials you are facing.

Couples Therapy

I also love to help couples and families come into a place of safety and connection with each other. In my work, I use several tools to help you step back and see the cycles your relationship goes through, facilitate difficult conversations so both partners feel heard, and open your eyes to your very own “emotional spiral of destruction.” Knowledge is power, what I impart will empower you to live better, freer, and best of all, together.

Brainspotting is the latest approach, in New Zealand, to work with eye positioning. “Where we look affects how we feel”. When a brainspot is located in collaboration with the therapist, deep subconscious emotional processing can occur. It is particularly healing in trauma work. My Background

I have a background in science (Bsc & PGDipSc) and have worked for several years in various industries before making a dramatic career change to pursue my passion for counselling. This was facilitated by attending the Living Wisdom School Level 1 & 2 and obtaining my counselling degree through Laidlaw College in Henderson, Auckland. I was born in Taiwan and immigrated to New Zealand with my family in the 90s. With my husband and our child, we now live in Central Auckland. I can understand the struggle with culture shock, settling into an unfamiliar country and dealing with language barriers, racism and bullying as well as cross-cultural relationship difficulties.  Personally, I’ve been through stuckness, emptiness, confusion with life’s purpose, direction and I’ve come to realise how important good mental health is.

My Ethos

I love counselling, I love helping people get their light bulb moment. One single insight can set you free from a lifetime of pain. I believe in short term pain for long term gain. My passion is to journey with people in the darkest, most difficult moments of life and give them hope.

You Can Expect

My clients note my warmth, acceptance, empathic way of being, cheerful presence and supportive nature. As someone who comes from the Christian faith, I bring this background to my work implicitly and have an openness and curiosity about the person in front of me without judgement. I want to help support you to reach your full potential, your goals in life and explore what might be getting in the way. Together, we can let go of old childhood messages, outdated coping strategies, and discover your voice, your self-worth, and your true being.

Send me a message and I will be in touch as soon as I can 🙂
