Roxanne Fick

I work with:

  • children, adolescents, adults, and families

Areas I can help with:

  • The impact of life experiences e.g. trauma, loss, divorce, separation, etc.
  • Emotional difficulties e.g. anxiety, depression, anger, sadness, etc.
  • Social and interpersonal relationship difficulties Behaviour challenges.
  • Parent support
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
  • Professional Supervision

How I Work

The process of support generally begins with an initial meeting to discuss your concerns and challenges to help me to better understand your needs and expectations. Together, we will identify specific goals and discuss next steps toward meeting those goals. The type of support will therefore be dependent on your needs and goals, and may include, but is not limited to, assessment(s), therapy, parent support, etc.

As a client-centred Psychologist, I endeavour to provide a non-judgemental and safe space for you, where you can feel heard and understood; and experience the opportunity to make sense of and meaning out of your personal experiences; and to feel empowered toward creating new possibilities.

Counselling for Children

When working with children, play becomes our language and medium for communication, and offers a safe space for children to “play out” their feelings and problems, just as adults may “talk out” their difficulties (Virginia Axline). Some of the alternative mediums to talk therapy that I use in my work with children may include doll play, puppets, storytelling, game playing, sand play, and art.

Therapeutic Approaches

I use various therapeutic approaches, depending on the clients’ unique needs, challenges, goals and expectations. Some of these approaches may include Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Constructivist Therapies, including Solution-Focused Therapy and Narrative Therapy, and Play Therapy.

About Me

I completed my training in South Africa in 2011, and have worked across various sectors as a registered Counselling Psychologist, in both South Africa and New Zealand.

My work experience has included providing therapeutic interventions, psychometric assessments and report writing, and facilitating group workshops. I have worked with clients of varying age groups, including children, adolescents and adults. I have also worked in various contexts, including private practice, pre-schools, primary schools, high schools and tertiary settings.
