Victoria Stewart

Psychotherapist

I have experience working with a wide range of problems, issues and diagnoses. I specialise in working with youth and young adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression and self harm. At my time at Segar House I learnt DBT skills and gained experience in Borderline Personality Disorder.

I am experienced with:

  • managing anxiety
  • depression
  • self harm
  • trauma
  • sexual abuse
  • eating disorders
  • anger management
  • healthy friendships
  • coping with bullying (including social media)
  • personality disorder diagnosis

Counselling/Therapy Services

I offer both short term and long term counselling and psychotherapy to adolescence and adults who are struggling with finding a sense of self, enjoyment or fulfilment in life. I also am experienced in working with trauma, sexual abuse and Borderline Personality Disorder. Whether you’re feeling stuck and not sure why you’re unhappy, or you have decided it is time to explore long term negative relationship patterns. If you have experienced sexual abuse or trauma I offer a safe space where you can be and explore this at your own pace.

Counselling/Therapy Approach

Depending on who you are and what you need, I have experience in a range of therapy techniques. Originally trained in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, the focus here is on interpersonal relationship patterns which may be causing you difficulty. I also spent time at Segar House where the emphasise is on DBT skills. These are tangible practical tools that can help you regulate your emotions. I also work with CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), which is helpful in managing and understand anxiety issues.

About Me

I been in private practice for 8 years. I took two years off to focus on being a mum to my young daughters, an experience that has been invaluable to deepening my work.

I have also worked:

  • At Segar House with those who have a personality disorder diagnosis, and gained amazing alongside those who began their journey, feeling completely hopeless, confused and lost.
  • Assisting church pastors through a workshop I developed on mental health and the church.
  • As Mentoring and Counselling manager for Bays Youth Community Trust where I discovered a passion for working with our Rangatahi and experienced how important intervention during these years is.
