Training and experience

I am a trained psychosynthesis counsellor and psychotherapist, with 10 years clinical experience. I work with adults on a one-to-one basis in a private practice from my home office, situated in a private and peaceful garden setting. I am also a staff member of the New Zealand Institute of Psychosynthesis, where my teaching work includes training counsellors.

About Psychosynthesis

My primary modality (or way of working) is psychosynthesis, which is a psycho-spiritual psychology. It was founded early last century by Italian psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Roberto Assagioli. As a contemporary of Freud and Jung, and also a practitioner of Eastern spiritual traditions, Assagioli wanted to develop a path of personal transformation that brought together the best understandings of East and West.

As a practitioner, that means I engage not only with your experiences of pain and difficulty and what holds you back, but also with what’s seeking to emerge and what beckons you forward, at the same time as building your middle ground capacity to know and experience yourself more fully at all levels.

Within this framework, I incorporate a range of approaches, as appropriate to my client’s needs, including CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), trauma therapy, drawing and experiential processes, as well as using the dynamics of our relationship as a tool for healing.

Issues

I am experienced at working with a range of issues, including abuse, addictions, adoption, chronic physical illness, depression, eating and body image issues, grief and loss, life transitions, relationship difficulties, self-esteem, sexuality, trauma, issues of purpose, meaning and value in life, and spiritual awakening.

Practice details

I am available for client work Monday to Thursday for a fee of $120 (including GST) per one hour session (cash or cheque).

My place is centrally located in Birkenhead and is convenient particularly for those on the North Shore and for those coming across the bridge from Auckland City.
