“What happens when people open their hearts?
They get better.”
— Haruki Murakami

Life can feel difficult at times. Some people come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, anxious, disconnected, or uncertain why things feel harder than they should. Others may appear to function well on the outside, yet inwardly feel lonely, stuck, dissatisfied, or unable to feel fully themselves in relationships.

Often our struggles are not simply about symptoms, but about deeper patterns of coping, relating, and protecting ourselves that have developed over time.

How I work

I offer a warm, thoughtful, and emotionally engaged space where we can begin to explore what may be happening beneath the surface.

My approach is relational and psychodynamic, though I do not work in a rigid or formulaic way. I believe meaningful change often begins through the experience of being able to explore oneself more openly and honestly within a genuine relationship.

Some people come for shorter-term support around a particular difficulty, while others seek a longer and deeper therapeutic process.

Areas I work with

I work with adults and older adolescents experiencing:

  • anxiety and depression
  • relationship difficulties and struggles with intimacy or closeness
  • grief and loss
  • trauma and emotional overwhelm
  • identity and life transitions
  • feelings of emptiness, loneliness, or disconnection
  • perfectionism and self-criticism
  • creativity and self-expression
  • recurring emotional or relationship patterns

About me

I am a registered psychotherapist and member of the Association of Psychotherapists Aotearoa New Zealand (APANZ), and have been in private practice for over 25 years.

Originally from Denmark, I completed my first degree there before later training and working as a psychotherapist in New Zealand. Having lived in seven different countries, I bring a broad cultural perspective and an interest in how experiences of belonging, difference, and adaptation shape emotional life.

Alongside clinical practice, I remain engaged in ongoing psychotherapy and psychoanalytic study, supervision, and professional development, both in New Zealand and internationally.

I have three children — two biological and one adopted from overseas — and know from both life and clinical experience that relationships and family life are rarely simple or straightforward.
