Joseph is a registered psychotherapist and supervisor. He is a member of the New Zealand Association of Psychotherapists (NZAP) and DAPAANZ, and is an ACC-registered Sensitive Claims provider. Joseph has worked with adolescents, adults, and families across private practice, rehabilitation centers, and community settings, with particular experience supporting clients experiencing trauma, addiction, ADHD, emotional regulation difficulties, and complex family dynamics.
Joseph works from a relational and body-focused therapeutic perspective, believing that healing often occurs through safe connection, emotional understanding, and the therapeutic relationship itself. His approach is grounded, compassionate, and practical, helping clients better understand themselves, strengthen relationships, and navigate life’s challenges with greater balance and self-awareness.
Influenced by more than 25 years of martial arts training and Taoist philosophy, including the concept of wu wei — acting in harmony with the natural flow of life — Joseph values presence, patience, adaptability, and the connection between mind and body. These influences continue to shape his understanding of emotional regulation, resilience, and responding thoughtfully rather than reacting impulsively. While therapy can involve deep and challenging conversations, he also believes humor, authenticity, and moments of lightness are important parts of the healing process.
Joseph draws from a range of therapeutic approaches depending on the needs of the individual and family. His areas of special interest include addiction, trauma, attachment, parenting support, youth mental health, men’s mental health, and breaking intergenerational patterns within families. He is passionate about supporting both individuals and communities to build stronger, healthier connections.
Outside of his professional work, Joseph enjoys martial arts, travelling around New Zealand, creating educational mental health content, and spending time with family and friends.
