Respectful empathic counselling to help you overcome difficult times and remove the obstacles preventing you from realising your true potential. What I really enjoy about my work is helping people cultivate their own self-awareness and personal success.
I usually begin by getting to know what matters most to you, and together we shape a plan that reflects your preferences and the areas you feel ready to explore. My approach is person‑centred, psychodynamic, and trauma‑informed, so we move at a pace that feels safe while staying curious about the patterns, experiences, and strengths that will guide our work.
The focus for therapy may be to help you:
I follow a structured treatment approach called Emotionally Focused Therapy or EFT. In my couple counselling work I have helped couples to:
My work focuses on developing a respectful safe therapeutic relationship where you will be listened to without judgement and supported in developing a deeper understanding of how you relate to yourself, others and the environment around you.
I am trained in:
I continue to work with a diverse client range in terms of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies.
My training in counselling & psychotherapy started in 2007 when I completed a diploma in psychodynamic psychotherapy at AUT. After finishing this I enrolled into Auckland University and completed a Master’s Degree in Counselling in 2011.
During my 16 years as a counsellor I have worked in private practice as well as with the New Zealand AIDS Foundation, The University of Queensland, Living Well Brisbane (Therapeutic support for male sexual abuse survivors), The Grief Centre Auckland, Home and Family, Lifeline and Workplace Options.
I work with new and experienced counsellors and my philosophy of supervision is similar to my counselling work in that the relationship is the most important element. During supervision attention will be paid to providing support and encouragement to facilitate counsellor confidence and competence as well as focusing on skills development and counsellor and client safety.
Supervision is an opportunity to reflect critically on your work in order to grow professionally and personally. It is a space to reflect on your internal processes and specific thoughts, feelings and actions during your work and how it impacts on your clients. It is also about recognizing and celebrating your successes and wins as much as it is about learning from your mistakes. Both are necessary for improving and developing personally and professionally.
I provide supervision for NZAC counsellors and those who are working towards their full accreditation with the NZAC.
