EMDR Therapy in Auckland – In-Person and Online

At The EMDR Clinic, I specialise in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy—a powerful, evidence-based approach for healing trauma and reducing distress from difficult life experiences. As a registered Clinical Psychologist with over 23 years of experience, I support individuals and couples to recover from trauma, manage anxiety, and find new ways forward.

Sessions are offered in welcoming therapy rooms on Auckland’s North Shore (Milford), Parnell, and Ponsonby, or online for clients across New Zealand.

My practice is inclusive and respectful, welcoming people from all cultural, personal, and professional backgrounds. Whether you are navigating the impact of past trauma, feeling overwhelmed by stress, or seeking clarity and growth, therapy at The EMDR Clinic provides a safe, professional space for healing.

How EMDR Therapy Works

EMDR helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they lose their overwhelming emotional charge. When traumatic or very stressful events occur, they may be stored in a way that doesn’t allow normal processing—so they continue to trigger anxiety, flashbacks, or negative self-beliefs.

In a typical EMDR therapy session, you:

  • Focus on a troubling memory or image, negative belief, emotion, and bodily sensation

  • Simultaneously experience bilateral stimulation (e.g. guided eye movements, tapping, or alternating sounds)

  • Move through an eight-phase protocol that includes preparation, processing the memory, installing more adaptive beliefs, and evaluating progress

This process allows your natural healing system to resume, reducing the emotional intensity of distressing memories. Over time, memories are still remembered, but feel less distressing and less overwhelming.

What EMDR Therapy Can Help With

EMDR therapy has been shown to be an effective  treatment for a wide range of psychological difficulties and life challenges. Some of the issues EMDR therapy can help with include:

  • Post‐Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other trauma‐ and stress‐related symptoms

  • Anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias

  • Depression and mood disorders (including bipolar disorder)

  • Grief and loss

  • Addiction and problematic substance use

  • Sleep disturbance and nightmares

  • Chronic illness / medical issues and associated distress

  • Dissociative disorders

  • Performance anxiety and other fears

  • Personality disorders and the emotional difficulties connected to longstanding patterns of behaviour and self-beliefs

A Supportive and Professional Approach

At The EMDR Therapy Clinic every client is treated with sensitivity and discretion. EMDR therapy sessions are designed to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you can process past experiences, understand patterns of thought and emotion, and develop tools to move forward.
