Phil Walker – Counsellor

Relationships, Anxiety & Personal Growth Counselling | East Auckland & Online

I am a Senior Counsellor based in Highland Park, Auckland, supporting individuals and couples to build stronger relationships and emotional clarity. With over 15 years’ experience, my approach combines practical therapeutic tools with deeper reflective work to support lasting change.

Many people come to see me for relationship challenges, anxiety, stress, life transitions, or a sense of feeling stuck. I offer a grounded, respectful space where we can explore what is happening beneath the surface and work towards clearer communication, stronger boundaries, and greater self-understanding.

Sessions are available in person in Highland Park or online via Zoom. I work with adults and couples, and begin with an initial session to understand your goals and what support will be most helpful moving forward.

FAQs

Q What types of counselling services do you offer?

I work with individuals and couples using an integrative, person-centred approach. Sessions focus on creating a safe, grounded space where we can explore what’s really going on beneath the surface while also working practically with communication, emotional awareness, and life challenges. My aim is to help you build stronger foundations in yourself and in your relationships.

Q How do I know if I need Counselling ?

Many people come to counselling simply because something doesn’t feel quite right. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit. If you’re already wondering whether talking to someone might help, that curiosity is often a good starting point. An initial session gives us space to explore where you are now and what support might move things forward.

Q What can I expect in my first session?

The first session is 55 minutes where we explore what has brought you here and what you would like to change or understand more deeply. Toward the end we discuss next steps and whether ongoing work feels right for you. I usually send a short intake form beforehand so we can use the session time meaningfully.

Q How is confidentiality handled in your practice?

Sessions are confidential in line with New Zealand Association of Counsellors ethical guidelines. The only exceptions are situations where there is serious risk of harm to yourself or others, or where I am legally required to share information. Wherever possible, I aim to discuss this with you first. I also engage in regular professional supervision to support safe and ethical practice.

Q What are my professional registrations?

I am a full Member (MNZAC) of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors and hold a current Annual Practice Certificate.

Q Do you offer online sessions across New Zealand

Yes. I work with clients throughout New Zealand via secure online sessions, as well as in-person appointments in East Auckland.
