Virginia Ashcroft

Counsellor & Relationship Therapist - Helping you through the tough times.

I am an experienced therapist and have been counselling individuals for over 20 years, and couples since 2008.

It is a privilege for me to work with my clients as you try to make sense of yourself and your reactions to situations.

I am experienced counselling people with:

  • depression
  • anxiety
  • feeling lost
  • grief and loss
  • workplace difficulties
  • relationship struggles

I love learning and am curious about how our upbringing and culture shapes who we are and how we see the world. I see each client as an individual with your own unique story, who comes to counselling wanting to be heard, and wanting to find a way to manage or change whatever is troubling you.

I use different approaches depending on what I sense will work best with you. The theories I have integrated into my way of working include Client Centred Counselling, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Attachment Theory, and Imago Couples Therapy.

Couples Counselling

I have been practicing as an Imago Couples Therapist since 2008. In Imago counselling you and your partner will be given information and help to make sense of your experience, and to see that in the midst of your struggles, your relationship can grow. The counselling will acknowledge and affirm the differences between you, and provide tools to enable you to move from conflict and disconnection, back into understanding and connection.

About Me

Since qualifying in 2001, I have worked as a counsellor, and then Team Leader at Wesley Counselling Service for four years. This was followed by four years at Relationships Aotearoa counselling individuals and couples, and co-facilitating the Parenting Through Separation programme.

I am a Wellingtonian but have lived overseas and travelled to many countries. I parented my three now adult children, mostly on my own, and have six beautiful grandchildren.
