Matthew Darby

Therapy that meets you where you are.

I work with individuals facing a wide range of challenges — whether you’re living with low mood, feeling emotionally overwhelmed, navigating anxiety or grief, healing from trauma, managing chronic illness, or feeling stuck in your inner life.

With experience in both NGOs and private practice, I offer sensitivity and care to this deeply personal process. As a registered ACC Sensitive Claims provider, I specialise in working with survivors of trauma, alongside supporting those navigating grief, loss, and anxiety. I also have a particular interest in supporting people living with chronic illness—understanding how long-term health conditions affect self-image and resilience—as well as working with men navigating emotional and relational challenges.

When you step into therapy with me, you step into a space where you are welcome exactly as you are.

Together, we can work towards:

  • Building a foundation of safety so you can speak openly without fear of judgment.

  • Developing a deeper understanding of yourself—why you feel the way you do, and how to move toward what matters most.

  • Strengthening your resilience to meet life’s challenges with steadiness and self-compassion.

  • Respectfully exploring trauma and grief at a pace that is comfortable for you.

  • Learning practical strategies for living well alongside chronic illness.

  • Navigating and deepening your connections and relationships.

  • Finding new perspectives when you feel stuck, uncertain, or in transition.

My therapeutic style is flexible and integrative. Drawing on humanistic, person-centred, psychodynamic, and mindfulness-based approaches, I create a collaborative space tailored entirely to your needs.

Alongside my professional training, I bring personal insight from over 30 years of partnership with my wife and the experience of raising three adult children. Life is rarely simple — but it can become more manageable and meaningful with the right support.

You don’t need to have everything figured out before we begin. You are welcome here, just as you are.
