Dr Hannele Variend

Experienced EMDR Therapist and Psychiatrist

I am an experienced psychiatrist and EMDR therapist.

I originally trained in the UK and moved to Aotearoa New Zealand in 2017 to raise my family. I have worked in the public health system in the UK, and also in Aotearoa where I have worked with whanau and tangata whaiora with severe and enduring mental health difficulties.

EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement and Desensitisation Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy which addresses difficult or distressing memories, so that they no longer have a negative impact on how you interact with the world, your thoughts, beliefs, emotions and bodily sensations. These memories can be a big event like a car crash or smaller ongoing events like having your feelings minimised or dismissed.

Individual EMDR therapy:  available on a weekly basis both in person and online.

Group EMDR Therapy: you’ll focus quietly on your own healing without having to share information with the group. Groups are between 4-6 clients. Sessions are 90 minute sessions,  (minimum of 2 sessions recommended).
