Trauma is common and plays a complex role in our lives. Rangatahi will experience trauma in different ways and at different stages of their growth and development which will impact their sense of safety and belonging, and in turn, their ability to engage at school.
Trauma-informed Education is an approach that uses knowledge about trauma and its effects to create safe learning environments for ākonga – environments that cultivate connectedness and empowerment, model empathy and promote inclusion.

This workshop is designed for anyone working in education and working with young people.
Why should you attend?
While we can’t resolve the challenges our ākonga face, we can all work to provide safe spaces for them to learn and thrive. This webinar will provide an opportunity to reflect on HOW we teach and interact with ākonga, and will identify ways to upskill and improve our practice.
Marge joined Empowerment Trust in 2019 as a facilitator educating youth with ACC’s Mates & Dates, a healthy dating relationships programme, arming rangatahi with information to strengthen their resiliency, raising awareness on the importance of sexual violence prevention. She has also worked as a foster mentor, Youthline counsellor and life coach, and brings years of experience from her time in the corporate sector.
Born and bred in Aotearoa, Marge has a love for travelling the world. She enjoys the variety of cultures, cuisines and values that make each nation. She is a proud mother of two adult children who inspire her to learn more and do better. In her own time, Marge loves going to live music events, spending time with whānau and friends and is bit of a self-development junkie.
