Alexi Theofanous

Registered Psychotherapist

Hi! I’m Alexi,

I am a psychotherapist based in Ponsonby, Auckland. I work with individuals aged 18+ both in person and online, offering short- and long-term therapy.

I support people experiencing a wide range of concerns, from new or situational challenges to longstanding or recurring patterns that persist despite repeated efforts to change. We may also explore patterns that operate outside of awareness and contribute to feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain about how to move forward.

Psychotherapy offers an opportunity to understand what is happening beneath the surface through a process of self-exploration and discovery.

My approach is relational and psychodynamic, however because we are all so different, I draw on a range of theories and techniques to inform my practice.

I aim to provide a steady, supportive space where you can deepen your understanding of yourself and the ways you relate to others and the world around you. With the right therapeutic relationship, this work can feel transformative, easing emotional distress, fostering greater self-compassion and confidence, and supporting a fuller sense of vitality and connection in your relationships.

Turning toward the parts of ourselves that are hurting or conflicted requires courage and can feel uncomfortable, and at times painful. For this reason, finding the right therapist for you is essential.

Background and Experience

I have over ten years’ experience working in the mental health sector across a wide range of settings, including NGOs, PHOs, non-profit, school, police, community and residential mental health, and private practice.

Throughout this time, I have held a variety of roles, including support worker, phone counsellor, group facilitator, and psychotherapist. I am passionate about supporting people towards improved mental wellbeing and creating spaces where meaningful and lasting change feels possible.

Alongside my clinical work, I have been involved in pilot projects and initiatives focused on preventative mental health and increasing access and improving psychoeducation. I now work primarily in private practice, offering both face to face and online psychotherapy.
