Shamaine Govender

Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist

As a psychotherapist who specialises in working with children, adolescents, and their families, I offer a warm, safe space where young people can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences at their own pace — whether that’s through words, play, art, or simply being.

My approach is rooted in psychodynamic psychotherapy. I help children navigate anxiety, behavioural challenges, emotional regulation, grief, identity, and life transitions. I also support teens through the complexities of adolescence — from stress and self-esteem struggles, to peer issues and identity development.

I can help your child or teen with:

  • Relationship issues within families between parents and children/young person
  • Attachment difficulties
  • Stress and trauma
  • School anxiety/refusal
  • Bullying
  • Grief and loss
  • Settling in and changes such as immigration
  • Difficulties around parental separation and divorce
  • Effects of trauma and related emotional distress
  • Effects of physical, sexual and emotional abuse
  • Problems of aggression and violence
  • Friendship issues

Therapy with me is relational, playful, and deeply respectful of each child’s unique inner world. I also collaborate closely with parents and caregivers — because when a child feels supported at home and in therapy, real change can happen.

If you’re looking for someone who meets your child with curiosity, empathy, and skill — I would love to connect.
