Four Pillars Counselling – Jonathan Kirk

Counselling that meets you where you’re at

I am a counsellor with over 12 years experience in therapy and personal development. I started Four Pillars Counselling to offer online, holistic counselling to youths and adults across New Zealand. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and practical.

My work is grounded in a holistic framework that recognises the interconnected nature of mental, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual wellbeing. I aim to create a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can speak openly, explore their experiences, and develop meaningful insight into the patterns shaping their lives.

In sessions, we work together to clarify what matters most to you and to develop practical strategies that support change. This may involve exploring unhelpful thought patterns, developing emotional awareness, building resilience, improving communication, or reconnecting with personal values and purpose.

I integrate a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches depending on the needs of each client. These include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help identify and challenge unhelpful thinking patterns, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to support values-driven living and psychological flexibility, mindfulness-based approaches for emotional regulation and present-moment awareness, and person-centred counselling which emphasises empathy, authenticity, and a strong therapeutic relationship.

I also draw from Indigenous modalities like Te Whare Tapa Wha for holistic wellbeing as well as narrative and solution-focused approaches, helping clients explore the stories they carry about themselves and identify practical steps toward the changes they want to make.

My background includes over 12 years of experience in helping professions, including counselling, therapy, social work, and health and wellbeing coaching as a certified personal trainer and nutritionist. Moreover, my years of experience in the world of law and business gives me a unique insight inside the pressures of high-stress work environments, perfectionism, and burnout. These diverse experiences inform my pluralistic, practical, and grounded approach to therapy. I understand that seeking support can be a significant step, and I aim to ensure clients feel respected, understood, and empowered throughout the process.

Sessions are currently offered online, allowing clients across New Zealand to access support from the comfort of their own environment.
