I have worked as a qualified counsellor with young people and adults since 2018. Over that time it’s been a privilege to be trusted with many stories of people’s lives. Some of these have included significant struggles, pain and not knowing what to do, but many have also included a great deal of wisdom, courage and pride.
I love my work because it gives me a chance to support people as they reclaim their lives from the problems they are facing. I have come to value narrative therapy as an approach because it aligns with my belief that people are not problems or in some way broken – I believe that we’re so much more than the problems in our lives, and keeping that in mind helps us gain access to a whole lot of resources that help us face these issues.
I do my best to create a safe space, so let me know if you have any questions or concerns/discomforts around meeting with a counsellor and we can work together to figure out a path forward that works for you.
I am currently available online (as at March 2026) but I am working on some in-person locations in the Kapiti and Whitby areas. Please ask if you would prefer to meet in person and I can let you know what options are available.
It is important for counsellors to be members with professional associations, because these associations make sure that we:
1) have a university qualification in counselling,
2) keep learning and improving our skills,
3) meet with supervisors who keeps us accountable,
4) take responsibility to work in ethical ways, and
5) submit to a formal complaints process if required.
The association that I am registered with is called the New Zealand Christian Counsellors Association (NZCCA); they make sure I continue to meet the standards listed above.
As a member of NZCCA, I am familiar with the Christian perspective so am able to work alongside those who value this, but I do not bring Christianity into my work unless requested. I am also confident in and enjoy working with people from a diverse range of spiritual/non-spiritual backgrounds.
Meetings currently cost $120 per hour (2026). If this is a barrier to you coming, please let me know and I can help you explore financial support through Gumboot Friday, Work and Income or other funders.
Please give 24hrs notice if you are not able to attend a meeting.
Narrative therapy was founded by a Kiwi and two Aussies, in partnership with some others around the world. Many people find this way of working encouraging and simple to engage with. It helps you access or bring back to light ideas, attributes, skills, and sources of support that might have gotten a bit distant, and hopefully leaves you feeling able to see and walk the way forward in your life (with good support around you).
