Ta Qum Counselling is dedicated to providing you and your family with quality counselling services. We provide care that is unique to you: your personality, your stage of life, your story.
We are non-judgmental, kind and caring, and effectively apply clinical knowledge and a lifetime of experience and hard-won wisdom to our counselling services.
Our professional services are evidence-based and guided by the ethics of the New Zealand Christian Counsellors Association.
We often use the following methods and therapeutic lenses – EFT, IFS, Narrative Therapy, PCT, CBT, Somatic Experiencing, Gottman – and are continuing ongoing training in these aproaches. Often our sessions will include a unique combination of these influences, a multi-modal blend that is tailored to your specific circumstances.
We charge $130 (GST inc) for a 60m session and $150 (GST inc) for a couples' session.
Yes. We follow the NZCCA ethical guidelines, meaning that we are able to align with you and include your spirituality into our sesssions, once you have asked for it to be included.
Yes. We have experience working with clients online, whether they are in New Zealand or overseas. We have also worked online with Australian clients.
There's a lot that goes into that 60m session that you might not be aware of. For example, to be able to practice in NZ you need to spend at least $30k on training, then there are the ongoing costs of clinical supervision and personal counselling, professional association training, CPD trainings and business overheads. These costs can be over $40k p.a. When you consider these costs and that a local plumber will charge $150 +GST counselling by a trained licensed practitioner may not seem as expensive.
For the first session we will spend the time getting to know you and the presenting issues. This will provide opportunity for you (and us) to decide whether we are a good fit and to establish a way forward, a therapeutic plan. Most counselling experiences are more than a single session, with the average therapeutic engagement being 6 counselling sessions over a period of 3-6 months.
The short answer is no. Instead we focus on helping you understand the underlying issues behind the behaviour/situation that is causing you concern, and then together we work on a collaborative plan on how you might step through it. We bring the training and experience that helps us to understand how the brain works, and that can recognise patterns and themes of behaviour. You bring a willingness to be honest and to work on your issues, with our support and therapeutic help. Together we can discover new ways of managing, changing, or growing through these current issues.
