Cognitive Behavioural Therapist

Silence, secrecy, and shame can isolate us from the care and connection we need. I offer a space where you can feel safe, seen, and understood, as we explore your experiences with curiosity and compassion. Together we will develop a clinical formulation: a shared understanding of how your difficulties developed, what shaped them, and what is keeping them going. This helps guide our work, allowing us to focus on the specific underlying mechanisms most important for alleviating your distress and creating meaningful and lasting change. Whatever you are facing, you do not have to go through it alone.

I work with all difficulties commonly described within DSM-5 diagnostic frameworks, but you do not need a diagnosis to see me. My approach integrates cognitive-behavioural, attachment-based, and schema-informed models, focusing on the specific beliefs, emotional responses, and behavioural patterns that are maintaining your difficulties.

If this approach resonates with you, please get in touch. You do not need to be certain about what is wrong or what you need from therapy; we will develop a clear understanding together. My job as a therapist is to meet you where you are at in your journey. And I can’t wait to meet you.

Q How are you different to most other counsellors?

I am a 'clinical' counsellor with extensive clinical psychology training, having completed all professional practice training requirements of the University of Otago clinical psychology training programme and satisfied the clinical competencies (but not research component) required for registration with the New Zealand Psychologists Board. This involved over 2,250 hours of clinical practice as a trainee/intern psychologist, including more than 90 hours of clinical supervision and more than 350 hours of face-to-face clinical work with patients. As part of this process I worked at Child & Family Mental Health Services (Dunedin) and the South Community Mental Health Team (Dunedin) as an intern psychologist, managing complex risk and mental health difficulties in a multidisciplinary team setting.

Although I now work as a solo practitioner in private practice and am registered with the New Zealand Association of Counsellors, I continue to bring this advanced psychological knowledge and evidence-based approach into my counselling, giving you the best of both worlds.
