Areas of Special Interest

I offer both short and long term work in a confidential and safe setting. I work with individuals only. I specialise in using mindfulness and talking therapy to help with relationship issues, addictions, loss and trauma.

Counselling/Therapy Approach

​My primary approach is psychodynamic psychotherapy. How we relate in the therapy gives insights to other relationships in your life. The work is alive and present although you may make links back to your earliest relationships and how they colour your world today. 

The other modality I use is called Hakomi which has at its core concepts of gentleness, nonviolence, compassion and mindfulness. Observing how the body and mind are responding in the present moment gives you the chance to notice the assumptions by which you may be confined. Hakomi is effective for both brief and long-term therapy.

Qualifications

I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the Psychotherapists Board of Aotearoa New Zealand, a Provisional Member of the New Zealand Association of Psychotherapists, hold a Post Graduate Certificate in Advanced Psychotherapy Practice from AUT, and I am a graduate of the three year Hakomi Professional Training.
 

Background and Experience

I have worked as a psychotherapist at the Kapiti Women's Centre, Lifeline, and in private practice, and have been a Mind/Body practitioner since 2004.

I am very experienced with women's issues, which often intersect with family life, such as being a new mother, relationship issues, parenting issues and separation.  I am experienced with trauma and this is my particular talent. Depression, Anxiety and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder are all issues with which I have a lot of experience.

I also see many men in private practice and the issues are often to do with relationships, anger, feeling constricted, overwhelmed, anxious and depressed.
