Psychotherapy

The therapy relationship is a partnership but you are the expert on your life. Human beings tend not to engage in behaviours that don’t serve us in some way, even though these often become the things we most want to change. I will work with you to help you understand how your life has been shaped by your past experiences, how these experiences continue to shape the course of your life, and how you might shift those patterns that no longer serve you in order to create the life you want to live.

The therapy relationship helps you discover the wisdom and knowing that all of your experiences have given you. Understanding where we have come from lets us see more clearly where we are going. This allows us to make the changes we need to make to become more fulfilled and satisfied with life.

I have a particular interest in Jungian theory and this influences the way I work.  I enjoy working creatively and have my own creative practice.

Supervision

I am available to offer clinical supervision for psychotherapists.

Group Therapy

I convene a slow, open psychotherapy group on Monday evenings in Greenlane.  The slow, open nature of the group means that membership of the group can change over time as people move on from working in the group and others join.  There is an interview process for those interested in group therapy.  Working in a group offers unique opportunities that differ from working individually in therapy and participating in a group can be an immensely rewarding experience.  Group therapy offers several benefits including support, safety, encouragement, role modelling, insight about interpersonal skills and ways of being, and affordability.

If you are interested or have questions about the group, please feel free to get in touch.

Psychotherapy Approach

Psychotherapy provides a space to gain fresh insight by understanding ourselves more fully and developing greater compassion for who we are. Through bringing awareness to what is and exploring new ways of responding to life we can become free from unhelpful patterns and find happier, easier ways of being and relating.

In our increasingly fragmented and time-pressured lives we can often find ourselves feeling disconnected, deeply unhappy or just restless. Psychotherapy provides a safe space for you to enhance your connection to yourself and those around you, increasing your capacity for intimacy in your relationships and satisfaction with life.

About Me

Originally from England, I have spent the majority of my 20 years in Aotearoa New Zealand, working for non-profit organisations including an environmental group (working to help protect and preserve iconic landscapes), and an organisation focused on supporting new mothers experiencing depression and anxiety. I have facilitated wellness groups that include a focus on mindfulness and self-compassion.

In 2018 I completed the Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) externship to support my work with couples.
